Happy Birthday Mr. Lincoln

Greetings from cyberspace! When I was in school, I loved history. It was not my best subject but I loved it. There are so many lessons to be learned, hence the saying 'Don't let history repeat itself'. I had two favorite eras that fascinated me. This first being the Elizabethan era of Great Britain and the other the life of Abraham Lincoln. And having a great aunt who was a school teacher I had a lot of resources. Lincoln was a great orator but honest. He did not speak of false truths. He spoke THE truth. Which is a rarity this day. I cannot recall any speech of Lincoln's that made me think what a jerk. They are all inspiring. And his arguments during his time as a lawyer were solid. You may not agree with his point of view but one cannot argue that he knew what he was saying. His words were perfectly chosen to provide the optimum impact. And notice I meant 'optimum', not 'maximum'. There is a distinct difference. His death was indeed tragic but not in vain. It meant that he struck a nerve. That his words had impact. So today I am going to spend some time reading some of his works and marvel at the truth.

Happy Birthday Mr. Lincoln. Thank you for being one of my heroes.

  1. I was under the impression that holiday was next Monday, when it is observed, but a teacher friend told me he was off today for Lincoln's birthday. Lucky them. Happy Birthday, Mr. Lincoln!
